*TUNE IN TO NBC (channel 7) AT 11PM TONIGHT!* to watch the VOSOT/VO that I took the lead in putting together.
At 5:30am, we were informed that we were going to San Ysidro for our live shot. Just before 2am, an Acura and Honda collided at an intersection leaving four people dead and three with severe injuries. The scene was taped off because they were still gathering forensic evidence. We were able to interview a few of the friends and family members of the people in the Acura. One told us that they were in the car but got dropped off at home right before the crash. He claimed that they had just come from "a function," and that the driver (of the Acura) was "driving all crazy." The driver of the Acura, who was the only restrained passenger and survivor from that car was in surgery during the time of the interview. He suffered spinal damage and internal bleeding. The other three were ejected from the car. The Honda carried a family of six, and the toxicology screen of that driver came back negative while the other is still pending. Click "Image Gallery" to see the photos of the scene.
Later, we were assigned to a car crash on the freeway. Since there was only one car involved, no one died, and there wasn't a fire, we did not use any footage or create any story.
We ended up going to the main station where I was shown around. I got the opportunity to edit the Voiceover-to-sound (VOSOT) and Voice Over (VO) where main editors do.
*The piece I did was not shown because there was new information obtained between the end of our shift (2:30pm) and the air time (11pm).*
