*TUNE IN TO NBC (channel 7) AT 6PM TONIGHT!* to watch the piece that I helped edit and gave creative input into.
We started the day by raising the satellite dish only to find that it wasn't working. We ended up doing a live shot (7:01,7:27,7:31 am) of the weather at Ocean Beach using the Dejero. Yesterday, Enrique was informed that we would most likely be doing our package, consisting of voice-overs and interviews, on the beach clean-up. Enrique explained that if there was breaking news, we would most likely go there, but that did not happen.
Around 9am, we started walking towards the sign-in sheet to find interviews and B roll. We ended up getting about six different interviews throughout the day. The focus is on how the community comes together to pick up trash before the next storm so that it doesn't wash into the ocean, hurting animals. Many people expressed frustration that they have to clean other people's messes.
The reporter, Liz Bryant, creates the script in the car before we even get back to the editing station. Once we arrive, she records the voice-over part before going through the rest of the footage to pick out the interviews that she wants to use. She then lays them down in Edius, a video editing software. After finishing, Enrique and I put the rest of the metaphorical puzzle together. The day finished with him sending the completed package back to headquarters.
